Fancy Directory 1.4
Fancy Directory is program to replace the DOS DIR
command. It gives a list of directories, followed by a
directory of files. The files are color coded by type:
Executable programs (EXE and COM) are in green. Batch files
are in red. BASIC programs are in light blue. Text files are
in white. Picture files like bitmaps (BMP extension) or GIF
files are in dark blue. Archived files are brown. Backup
files, with extensions such as BAK or OLD, are displayed in
yellow. All other file types are displayed in gray, the
normal color for DOS output. The directories and files are
listed alphabetically. The alphabetical listing is displayed
in the normal way that people read. That is, from left to
right on a line and then dropping down to the next line.
Fancy directory also tells you the number of directories and
files found, and the amount of free space left on the disk.
The easiest way to use Fancy Directory is to put the
D.EXE file in any directory that is included in you PATH
statement. That way, you can run it from any directory
simply by typing D and pressing the ENTER key. That is
even easier than typing DIR and pressing ENTER.
Fancy Directory accepts most of the same command line
parameters as DIR. If you run it with no command line
parameters, it gives all the subdirectories and files of the
current disk and directory. If you only want certain files
listed, you can specify a wild card search, such as *.EXE or
WP.* or FILE??.*. For example, typing D W*.EXE would give
you a list of all EXE files with a base name starting with W
in the current directory. You can also specify a path, such
as A: or \DOS. For example, D \DOS would give you a list of
all files in the DOS directory of your current drive.
Specifying \DOS\*.EXE would list only the files with an EXE
extension in the DOS directory. In short, Fancy Directory
behaves exactly as the DIR command does when you specify a
path or file parameter. If you are at all familiar with DIR,
you will have no trouble using Fancy Directory. However, you
will not need the / parameters of DIR. For example, you will
not need the /W parameter, because Fancy Directory
automatically lists files in the wide mode. You also will not
need the /P parameter, because Fancy Directory automatically
pauses when the screen is full until you press the space bar.
Paying for Fancy Directory
Fancy Directory is a shareware program. If you like it,
please pay for it by sending $5.00 to:
Leithauser Research
4649 Van Kleeck Drive
New Smyrna Beach FL 32169
In addition to a clear conscience, you will receive a
disk containing other shareware and freeware programs by
Leithauser Research. You are, of course, under no obligation
to register these programs unless you also decide to keep
using them.
The ProLook QuickBASIC library
This program was created using QuickBASIC and the
ProLook QuickBASIC library. The ProLook library is a
QuickBASIC enhancement library that adds such features to
QuickBASIC as:
1) Advanced disk management commands, like being able to read
a list of file names from disk into a string array or being
able to determine how much free space is left on the disk
2) Mouse control of QuickBASIC programs
3) Data manipulation such as array sorts and data conversions
4) Advanced keyboard input routines like bounce bar menus
(one and two dimensional) and formatted input routines
5) Fancy output routines, such as pop-up windows, screen
scrolls, and automatic centering and bordering of output
The ProLook QuickBASIC library can be ordered by sending
$35.00 to Leithauser Research (remarkable coincidence, isn't
it) at the above address. However, if you mention in your
order that you read about the ProLook library in the Fancy
Directory manual, you can send just $30.00, a $5.00 discount.
It is not necessary to register Fancy Directory to order
ProLook or obtain the discount.
